Originally scheduled for September 2011, the first edition has been confirmed to take place from 8 to 17 December 2011 in an all-in-one venue in Beijing. The five sports on the programme will be Chess, Bridge, Draughts, Go and Chinese Chess.
With the event dates confirmed, SportAccord continues to collaborate and cooperate closely with the concerned international federations (IF) as well as the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) to develop competition schedules and technical manuals. Simultaneously, the frame work for local event operations and the Local Organising Committee structure is being established in China.
A first on-site observation and technical visit was made in the attendance of SportAccord and Mr. José Damiani, President of IMSA, from 6 to 10 January 2011. During this meeting the proposed all-in-one event venue was inspected. Though it appears sufficient in terms of accommodating the competitions and relevant games services, final confirmation will take place after consultation with the participating IFs. In addition, the current sports table is under review and will be completed for the first Technical Meeting, to be held in March 2011 (the exact date is still to be confirmed).
